Well, that's an old joke of sorts. However, it seems that everyone agrees: President Grant was born where he was born. It is that simple. It was right here (no, down there in the photograph), along the meandering Ohio River, just a spit and a stone's throw upstream from New Richmond, Ohio. It's up the hill, on a side road, from a nice river overlook - Grant Park - and within walking distance a local convenience store. Well, honestly, it's a bit further, from New Richmond, than earlier described but, if you've driven upstream long enough to get to New Richmond, Ohio you might as well drive a a little bit more. "Where is it?" you might ask. I'm thinking you're wondering about the house he was born in? Well, it's on the leftish, behind that there big tree and behind the charming white fence. The house is rather small, a museum now. It could be described in modern terms as a starter house for a starter house. Real Small. But, as with acorns, large things are sometimes born from small things.
So, I'm thinking that you photographers out there are wondering why I didn't use my feet to change my vantage point so the house, the literal birthplace, could be seen. I just didn't want to. It's more fun to point the camera up the street and tell you where to go to see it. It's in Point Pleasant, Ohio, a bit up the road, just on the left, from the intersection of State Routes 52 and 232. If ya miss it, you must be DUI or DUS ... or you ain't actually drivin nowheres.
