A Rose ...

Rose. 2004. Don't remember which camera.

Girl - posed

A cute little youngin, photographed back in 2004. Nikon D-70, some image trickery

Life in the Farm Kitchen

The way it was in the farm kitchen on November, 1964 - or - that's what the calendar suggests. This image is from a 2X2 slide scan. I'd guess it was from Kodachrome film because the image still "has those nice bright colors." The scene, captured during that fractional second of exposure, was, no doubt, posed but the scenario is real and completely typical of a Sunday afternoon at the Bayer Farm. I think that, other than the photographer commanding "Look this way and smile for the camera." this photo shows business as usual. In the background, one might hear the Lone Ranger radio program playing. Copyright (as are the others herein unless indicated otherwise) Stephen Bayer. All Rights Reserved

Mount Le Conte

Sometimes, light is magical. Unfortunately, I just had a cheap HD video camera ...

Garage Light

Usually, on sunny days, if I'm going to take a portrait of someone, I like to position them slightly inside openings - such as an open garage door - at times to allow the sky to provide soft, even illumination. Usually, the background, being darker, "drops out." In this example, I also edited with hue reduction, adding tiny bit of blue to shadow and midtones, some doging, burning, etc. Origin: Nikon D-70

An old negative scan ...

Uh, read that as a scan of an old negative ... I found this to be an interesting image, made from one frame of 4 negatives found in the grandparents old farmhouse. The other frames had 3 soldiers in tee's and boxers, one posed with them and the man seated in this image. The 3 soldiers looked like they just came out of the shower. Nobody claimed the negatives no one seemed to know anything about them. So, the negatives were given to me. And so I share - have a look, make of it what you will. Old School

Who's schoolin who? Cincinnati's life and times, back in the 70's, the Big Red Machine up to bat. Night game. Maybe a bad call? Shot from about the 3rd row of Riverfront Stadium. I used a Miranda Fvt, Soligor 300 mm, exposure and color negative film details unrecorded. I think there's a bit of movement blur here: the camera/lens were braced between my knees because I recall shooting at a 1/60 sec. or so. Copyright Stephen G. Bayer, all rights reserved.

About time ...

... Nikon D-70 ... I think

Cincinnati 08/04/2013

This would be an exception to a fractional-second photographic exposure. Taken from the parking lot of historic St. Rose Church, this image looks downstream towards nearby Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Technical details include using Fujifilm Superia X-tra 400 inside a Nikon Fg camera, 24 mm Nikon lens, tripod, and bulb exposure using finger pressure for an estimated 5 - 8 seconds. This image was taken as part of a performance evaluation of the camera which was, at the time, for sale on Ebay.com and has since sold. This film scan has been edited slightly: alterations have been made of brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and it has been re-sized to 1100 pixels in width from the original's 4426 pixel scan. Sold with a 55mm Micro Nikkor lens, this image shows how well an early 1980's vintage camera and lens can work at 30 years old. Note that the 24 mm used here was also early 80's vintage.

On the bottom, left third of the image, on the opposite shore, is Dayton, Kentucky. There, a pinpoint of light above the center of the treeline, is a light atop the dome of Saint Bernard Church.

Sister Joan

My friend Joanie, as some might say, "has long since passed on", but I still think of her. This photo I took as one of several to be used for a portrait on a book she was publishing. She liked this photo.

She was given to another and, now, I'm just a lost memory. I miss her so.

I started this blog to have an alternative location for things that arent's BlackBerry photos. So, lets kick things off with this image, snapped a few years ago. Nikon D-70.
